Hot Water Tank Maintenance & Replacement Services
A properly installed and high-quality hot water tank will last between 8 to 12 years. Like everything else, time and consistent use will wear down the tank. In regular operations, the inside of your tank will go through a process called electrolysis, which means that corrosive particles are pulled to an anode rod to protect the tank lining, but these rods usually only last about 6 years. When this rod is gone the lining of the tank begins to slowly corrode. Hot water tanks should be drained once a year to prevent corrosion buildup at the bottom of the tank, but this is something we all rarely do! This type of buildup can act like insulation causing older tanks to work harder to heat the water or triggering a safety shutdown of the gas valve.
